Michael's residence in Ojai, California. The original structures are World War II Quonset huts, brought to the property in the late 1940s as a recreation center for a local church. In the 1960s the huts were converted into a single-family home, and the house saw few changes in the decades that followed.
The renovation barrel vaults the interior spaces, bringing the curve of the original shells inside. The result is contemporary, while the bones of the huts still show in certain places.
Michael served as designer and general contractor, and built all the millwork, cabinetry and freestanding furniture in the home. Countertops and vanity sinks are poured in GFRC concrete.
